  1. Resolved Question: How to enter the film industry?
  2. 30 May 2008 at 9:47pm
I am a 24 year old working in the city, with a finance background from college. My real interest is in film, and I already have a great script in hand that I would like to eventually develop into something real. But the reality is altho I have the passions, I don't have the connections, background, and, my family is not rich enough where I can just go pursue arts without having to worry about day to day living...I wonder how I can step into the film territory with some kind of position where I won't need to suffer too bad financially to pursue my goals? Thanks Rws68, i guess finding the right person is the key here. I also thought about entering the industry through perhaps working on the corporate side of some of the big media companies, like Disney or WB, say if you be an analyst , you would get to know how they finance films, etc, to meet people that way. I'm not sure if that's too idealistic though?

  7. Resolved Question: Relationship Question?
  8. 30 May 2008 at 3:17pm
My girlfriend and I have been dating for 2 years. Sometime last year, we decided to move in together because of her bad home life and my finances. Well, this year when i went to announce said plan to others, everybody hated the idea, i am the youth leader at my church you see, and for religious reasons, i was forced to back out. That was a month ago, for the last month she has heavily disliked me, she has gone into a stage of horrible depression and is uncaring and unemotional about anything, she had her entire life set on us moving in together and workd 2 jobs along with college all last year to prepare, one a paper route at 3 EVERY morning, the other an office job with mean evil gossippy co workers who treated her like crap. She has not found happiness or satisfaction in anything, no me, her friends, her favorite things, nothing makes her happy. Today she told me she wanted to take a break, she loves me and i love her dearly, i hate the idea but idk what to do, can someone plz help? The church isnt controlling me, i know it isnt the right thing to do, not bc wed be doing anything wrong, but bc other people would see it that way and i dont need to kill my christian witness like that. Also, she's not making me choose, shes just really sad about the whole thing, she said she needs a break bc she put her entire life into the idea and now that its failed she doesnt know what to do, her last yr has been a waste and she even failed 2 college classes bc of all the work and stress she went through. she wants time away to find herself again but i hate the idea and wish there was some way we could get through this together instead of apart, idont see where going on a break will fix anything, i just wish there was some way to make her happy again, its kinda messed up how just being with me isnt enough to make her happy but i guess i can see why shes so upset since she went through so much for nothing, i just wish i knew how to make things better. some of your religious answers are exactly right but i guess i ditnt make the problem clear enough, we werent going to do anything wrong just live together, and i have a ring, am planning to ask her to marry me, n she knows i have every intention to marry her, but shes going through tough times with herself and i dont know how to handle that she needs time away from me to deal with this, the moving in thing isnt the issue, its all the crap she suffered going to waste that is the issue and her in a deep emotional state of depression where nothing makes her happy, nothing even makes her mad, she doesnt get excited or have any emotion anymore, i just dont see how a break will help us. What should i do about the break thing? I really dont want to and wish i could think of some other way, guys please help me with this.

  10. 30 May 2008 at 2:58pm
I have been working as a government employee for the last 25 years. But I have not earned anything yet. Whatever earned is consumed. In other words - hand to mouth. I too have a dream - a dream of having a house of my own, having a dream car, educating my children in good school and college and above keeping my wife happy with sound sourcing of finance - a modest living. My problem is I don't find any way out to earn more.

  11. Resolved Question: Does he have the right to be mad about the past?
  12. 30 May 2008 at 10:18am
4 years ago I was 18 years old.I had a two year old baby and I was living with my boyfriend's family in a bad place. My boyfriend was in jail on gun charges.I was doing dugs and rarely going to school. I was also a year behind in high school. Then I met a guy who really cared about me. He helped me stop doing drugs. He helped me finish school. He helped me move out of that bad enviroment. He also helped me get my finances together. He helped me go to college and loved me dearly. But I always lied to him and he broke up with me after I attacked him. I saw him with another female and I slashed his car tires. We made up and got back together. Then I gave him a STD because I did drugs and had unprotected sex with someone when we briefly broke up.We broke up again and 3 months later my ex-boyfriend got out of jail and I got pregnant by him shortly after. I was 19 with two kids and 2 baby daddy's.Now I'm back with the guy who cared about me in the past.I sent my kids to live with their dad

  15. Resolved Question: Are finances in our relationship a deal breaker, or am I t...
  16. 30 May 2008 at 12:50am
I love my boyfriend more than words can say. He treats me with the utmost respect, he loves children and is really good with them, he is incredibly thoughtful, he is very understanding about my demanding schedule of working full-time and going to school full-time, and he totally supports my aspiration of going to law school. We have talked about marriage, and I would love to, BUT... I have worked INCREDIBLY hard to graduate with my bachelors of science with two minors, working full-time while going to school full-time for the last 6 years, and I will dedicate another 3 years to law school. I grew up poor, and I want to give my kids the advantages I didn't have. My boyfriend grew up in a very nice, and very well-off family, and while he has a college degree in general studies, he's not motivated to try to make more than the $22,000 a year that he's currently making. He's not into financial planning or saving money, and he won't let me help him financially plan. I don't think it makes him a bad person in any way to be happy with what he has, but I've been working really hard to be able to afford the things for my children-(when I have them) that I didn't have as a kid, like nice vacations, a house in a nice, safe neighborhood, nice new school clothes, opportunities to go abroad on school trips, and most importantly, a college fund, in addition to having a retirement fund. I don't think it's fair to marry him, and expect him to change, but at the same time, I don't want to feel like I've worked this hard only to continue to struggle, or worry about how I will pay a couple thousand dollars to let my kids go on a really cool trip. So should I appreciate the fact that I have a wonderful man in my life, (which is hard to find), or should I keep looking for someone who is more on the same page?

  17. Resolved Question: how much weight is given to your undergraduate degree when...
  18. 29 May 2008 at 6:43pm
Sounds like a complex question but this is what it boils down to. I am in high school and I'm trying to figure out what i want to major in during college. I think that I am ultimately going to go into business/finance but my parents tell me that an undergraduate degree in business will not distinguish me from other students and would rather that I major in engineering. I am definitely going to graduate school so i was wondering if i got an undergraduate degree in engineering, would it improve my chances of getting into an elite business school (assuming i got all A's) or would that be better if i got my degree in business. I am good in both subjects, am currently first in my high school class and would eventually like to get an MBA from a highly thought of school like Wharton or Harvard (just examples). If anyone has some advice for me i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

  19. Resolved Question: Please help!!?
  20. 29 May 2008 at 12:58pm
I am applying to work at this place that sells natural and organic skincare and beauty products. I am a full-time college student and just want to get this summer job to earn some money to pay for my tuition. I am also a fanatic about using organic and all-natural products that are safer than their chemical-laden counterparts so I think that this position would be GREAT for me. However, I am a Finance major and my resume is geared towards Finance. Do I have to change it and gear it towards Retail (since that's the area that my summer job falls in)? Also, what should I put as my job objective? THANK YOU!!

  21. Resolved Question: Bf- baggage or not?
  22. 29 May 2008 at 11:17am
Just a quick question. My bf and I have been dating a while and things are good. He has brought up marriage and I definately see myself married to him. The only issue I have is that he has court issues with his ex, that he has already assured me he is working on. I also worry that we won't be financially ready to get married and get our own home. I am responsible with my finances and have a good job. We both are also in our twenties and done with college. Would you consider this baggage or am I being paranoid? Thanks! A few quick details about the situation...The only issue he has is with ex in court over money. They both have lawyers and he has told me that he is doing everything he can to finish this. He also doesnt need to show up in person any longer. Any other ideas? Thanks!

I'm a college student majoring in Finance. I want to apply for a position as a Teller, but I don't have any previous work experience. Banks are always recruiting college students, do you think I will still have a chance of being hired even though I don't have any job experience or a resume?

  29. Resolved Question: Recent college graduate trying to rent an apartment! Help!?
  30. 28 May 2008 at 6:15pm
My fiancee and I just graduated college and have yet to get our new "dream" jobs with our new degrees. During my first year in college, I opened a lot of credit cards not realizing what they actually were. My mother was paying them for me, as I was an immature unsuspecting 18 year old. During all of this, my parents started going through a nasty divorce and ended up defaulting on all of their bills, including mine. To this day, I don't blame them for my bills, but at the time I didn't realize how important credit was. Basically, i've been working to pay them off since, but my current credit is RUINED! My fiancee has perfect, actually more than perfect credit. He;s financed a few things but always paid them off right away. The problem we're facing is, we're trying to rent an apartment. Obviously my name cant go on the lease due to my credit. We're 21 and with our combined incomes have more than enough to make the rent. His alone, may not be enough. Will we still be able to rent an apt? We would prefer not to have to get a cosigner. But it's tough with him having to be the only one on the lease. The rent will be $900 a month. He brings home around $1200 before taxes, not much at all! We won't have a problem making rent, with my $2,000 a mth salary included but we can't tell the apt complex i'm moving in and therefore can't add my income! Help!!! Will his good credit alone be enough to secure the apt?

  33. Resolved Question: Does this mean my exboyfriend was just using me?
  34. 28 May 2008 at 12:26pm
my ex bf broke up with me a week ago.He says he can't be with me and be a man( i.e. not cheat, )and needs to get his finances together since he droped out of college. He said he didnt want a "title" right now, and needs to be focused on getting his stuff together. We went out for memorial day, and later that night we were intimate. He told me to remember this night whenever i feel i cant wait for him. he text me when i left "i love you and remember what i said". so he knew what he was saying... I told him maybe it shouldnt have happened because it's confusing me since I want a "title". he said his mistake, but he saw me as his girl at that moment. etc. he stressed that he doesnt want a relationship right now, and that i am the only female in his parents house, around his friends etc. and he loves me as his future wife. DOES HE WANT ME TO WAIT FOREVER? should i just move on? i am SO confused!

  38. 28 May 2008 at 5:00am
Hi my cousin's daughter is graduating this year. I haven't seen nor talked to her since she was in 3rd grade. Her mom and I were always really close growing up but now I've moved a long ways away plus other bs. Anyhow I want to get her something thoughtful and cool. I've read some sites and they say "Cool" gifts would be stuff like a back pack full of college supplies. What do you girls think would be something neat. I thought about getting her a package of candy from 1990 that they sell. is that a stupid idea? what would you want someone to give you. that's cheap and not money. they say money's bad because of not being able to work out the ole finance things.

  41. Resolved Question: will me and my ex ever get back together????
  42. 27 May 2008 at 9:16pm
my exboyfriend broke up with me a week ago to be "friends" because he hasnt been faithful to me-(i have always caught him and it would cause HUGE arguments to where i dumped him, but we would be back together the same day). My ex also felt that he also needs to get his finances together (he dropped out of college). i was confused because he claims he wants me here as his future wife etc, and we talk daily and he tells me he loves me every day.He assures me he is coming to me when he is mature. That means he knows what he was saying.... What do I do? Wait for him ..make him commit to me now...or do yall think he is playing a game??

  43. Resolved Question: I think my husband left the country w/o my knowledge? What...
  44. 27 May 2008 at 7:42pm
We have been separated for over 10 mths. I'm thinking this is because a month ago he took me to dinner to discuss finances and how to manage the divorce. While we were having dinner he asked me if I would retaliate if he ever moved out of the state (we live in Illinois). I thought it was an odd question, but I answered, "no, why would I?" During this same dinner, he asked how dating was going. At the time we had both started seeing other people but both relationships had ended after a few months. I personally feel that it was mistake to start something new when the divorce is not yet finalized, that's another topic. Then my husband mentioned that he was now interested in a woman we both went to college with. She lives in Pakistan. Hmm....interesting right? Fast forward, my husband is supposedly on a business trip now. But he failed to give his flight # or hotel accomodations which he usually does (we've 3 kids). He also told our daughter he couldn't be reached by phone while away. I'm concerned becasue its a muslim country. If he's kidnapped or killed by terrorists how will that effect divorce issues/property etc...?

My truck has seen it's better days, it is a 1992 Ford. the local government angencies say I make too much money, which by all standards fall under the low income guidelines. Btw, I make only twenty thousand dollars a year, and after deductions, there is not much left. I appreciate all that read this. I just want my son to have a better life than I am having. Thank you and bless you all.

  59. Resolved Question: Hiring a College Financial Advisor - where to turn?
  60. 27 May 2008 at 2:23am
I'm seeking assistance in achieving my goal of financing my education. I am returning to school as an older student (30s) and will be attending school in the Fall. My first semester will be as a non-matriculated student taking three courses. In the Spring I will be matriculated and full-time and eligible for federal loans and scholarships. So, I am turning to the private loan market for the Fall semester to finance my tuition and living expenses. I'm trying to find an expert with experience in education finance to help me navigate and choose the best private loan option. I don't know if I should turn to a CFP with college planning experience, or a CCPS, or someone who bills themselves as a Financial Aid Expert, and wasn't sure how to locate one such person. Thank you for any information.

  64. 27 May 2008 at 1:15am
I'm currently in an undergrad college. What sounds better to employers, a major in Finance or a major in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. (If I do the concentration, I plan to do a double concentration in finance and marketing). So i guess it's 2 questions, 1. what's better a finance major or concentration, and 2. if the answer is concentration, is it because it allows me to do a double concentration with marketing? What is an employers view?

  65. Resolved Question: Finance/Economics Major?

  67. Resolved Question: Need advice about my college education?
  68. 26 May 2008 at 9:00pm
I am a junior at a university right now. I am in the business school (undergrad) and I am interested in marketing. I want to go to law school after undergrad. Is this a good plan? I was hoping to like finance or accounting, but I hated both, so I refuse to major in those. I really like marketing but I know the starting salaries for marketers is only like 30k, and that sounds terrible to me. Is marketing a bad major before law? When I apply for jobs in law firms will they care if I majored in marketing instead of say finance or accounting? Also I am interested in potentially getting a real estate license. Would this be a good combo of degrees to have me set for life, Marketing, Law, Real estate? Right now I am so confused and I don't really know what route I want to take. I am so worried about my future you have no idea.

I have read my text book and it confuses me how to do this. I have tried to ask my instructor but he's been too busy to work one-on-one with me (I am taking an online course). Does anyone know of a credible web site that I can visit that breaks this information down in detail on how I'm supposed to calculate these. I have visited my local library, college bookstores amongst other places and there doesn't seem to be anything that I can use as a reliable resource that is tailored to my particular dilemma. Any help is appreciated, thank you. Btw, I need this information for a health care finance class (HHS/265). 53 seconds ago - 3 days left to answer. I realize that this is not necessarily about financial aid but it is a financial question and I'm desperate for any help y'all can give me. Thanks! Excuse me, but I'm not asking anyone to do my homework for me. If I was then that could be classified as cheating. Please reread my question then you can answer me intelligently.

  73. Resolved Question: How can I become a CPA?
  74. 25 May 2008 at 10:31pm
I already hold a bachelors in finance, but have very little coursework completed in accounting. I read that I would need to complete a certain amount of classes and also have some sort of work experience before I could try to take the exam. But how would I go about completing that coursework? Can I just take the necessary accounting classes at a local community college or are there particular classes that are needed? I'm also afraid to take all these classes and then not pass the exam. That would waste a lot of time and money and I would then stand there without a degree in accounting. What would be the best route for me to take? Do they also let you focus on accounting in masters programs?

  79. Resolved Question: knowledge of what the kids know upon graduation?
  80. 25 May 2008 at 8:40am
I've always had this idea, and now that my 2nd child is graduating and going on to college, it's always been in the back of my head, there choice's of electives if not mandatory classes, I just think upon graduation they should have to have under their belt finance classes, know how to balance a check book, know what retirement funds are, IRA, trading stocks, the market, 401K, maybe an apptiude test see what career choices they have, interest rates, you get the point, I think this should start freshmen year, I just wonder what kind of kids we would have graduating or heading into college instead of the ones that had shop class (which isn't bad) but left alone? or girls. I learned how to sew a purse and seriously make a cake from scratch,,,,I'm just wondering how some of us could have gone? just curious of your ideas? exactly my point, and who's to blame? I personally think it's are educational system, that's why I said start freshmen year, start easy, make it fun, ( however ) be creative,,,,but just do it!

  85. Resolved Question: Motorcycle Financing?
  86. 23 May 2008 at 6:30pm
I am 19 years old.. turning 20 this year and have decided I am going to try and get a bike I have wanted for years and years. I am not exactly sure who or what to try for financing. I have excellenct credit for someone may age (in the 700's, with revolving major accounts and a new car in my name for over a year) and have built it since I was 18. Many places I know frown on giving out credit to people with less then 3 years experience. I have looked into several major financing places and many of those places do not give out auto/motorcycle loans for less than $7500. The bike I want - Kawasaki 250 Ninja is only $3500. I have been at my current job for 6 months and make a decent living considering I am a college student with no rent ect ect. I am ready to put $1000 down... but would a dealership be able to finance some one for only $2500? Should I just go to the dealership and let them work out the details with dealerships or has anyone had good luck with another bank? Thanks~

Hello all. I'm a sophmore at my local community college in Michigan. I'm majoring in business-finance and struggling to figure out rather to stay in state or transfer out of state to finish school. My current GPA is a 3.3, and I still have the summer semester, fall and winter to get it up. I plan on applying for the summer semester of next year wherever I go. Here's my dillema. I'm looking at the following schools: University of Michigan-Dearborn, University of Illinois-Chicago, Howard University, and University of North Carolina-Charlotte. The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor is a reach school because they don't transfer most of the business credits from community colleges. What I'm wondering is what school provides the most internships and networking potential even in college. I want the experience before graduating, so there's less of a waiting period to find an actual career. Mind you, I'll probably be 26 when I finally graduate. Also what location is more economically progressive.

  91. Resolved Question: Over $100,000 in student loan debt. I don't make enough $ ...
  92. 23 May 2008 at 10:06am
I graduated from college in December and my student loans are beginning to come due. As of right now I only have 4 loans in repayment and I already can't afford them! I got a good job after graduation - entry level but still in my field. In July the rest come due and I have no idea what I'm going to do! I've missed my payments for last month because I just can't seem to make ends meet. I'm trying to find a 2nd job but so far no luck with this economy. I've been hearing that I need to get a consolidation loan but I'm not sure what to look for in a good one and I need to find one that can consolidate both my federal student loans AND my alternative student loans as well. Can anyone help me?! Also: Is there anything I can do RIGHT now to help with missing that payment before I miss another one and they start talking about defaulting?! Obviously I'm overextended with my finances but I don't know what to do about that... The whole reason I HAVE so many loans out to pay for college is because my parents will not help me with any education expenses. They believe I'll appreciate it more if I pay for it myself but made too much $ for me to get enough financial aid. Asking them for help is out of the question.

  96. 22 May 2008 at 11:03pm
Since returning full-time to college, my family - mostly my brother - has paid for all my bills, including my mortgage! This is going to be the case for 2 more years. Since I don't work, I can't take advantage of the itemized deductions, and I thought that it is a waste. Since my brother is financing it anyway, I was wondering if there was a way to transfer the house into his name so he could take advantage of the tax breaks. Any advice would be appreciated! Is this a good idea? Is it legal? Who could, or should, I discuss this with (a financial advisor, tax advisor, realtor)?

  97. Resolved Question: How long for bachelor's in Business/Finance?
  98. 22 May 2008 at 7:20pm
I will be starting college next fall, and I was wondering about how long it takes to get your degree. I have been hearing that it takes usually longer than 4 years to get your bachelor's. I plan to major in Finance. Assuming that I do not change majors, will this take 4 years or longer? My uncle, who worked in a college admission office for 30 years, told me as long as I do not change majors and pass all of my classes, it should take only 4 years to get my degree. I will also be a full-time student, so I will not be splitting time between school and work. So how long do you think this will take?

  99. Resolved Question: No credit low income car loan?
  100. 22 May 2008 at 6:36pm
I am a full-time college student and work part-time. My income is about $600-700/month and I have no bills. Every place that I have been to will not finance me because I have no credit and my parents both have bad credit and are also not approved. I had a friend that took me to school and work everyday but is now unable to. I need some way of getting a reliable car or else I can't go to school and will have to quit my job. Does anybody know of anyone who offers loans to people that have no credit and lower monthly income?< >
