Resolved Question: Crap.... I just quit my job. Now what?

I quit my job because the place was run very poorly. No one was trained, no one bothered to train me when I got there and I was supposed to know what I was doing my first day. No one communicates efficiently at all. The majority of people who work there are mexicans and while Im not prejudiced, I need to be able to communicate with my coworkers! Yes, I have thought about taking spanish but right now I cannot. My boss is always telling me Im slow, which is not the case. My husband also works there too, and my boss definately shows favortism between us. (not just us but with other people as well). Everyone there makes me feel like Im incompetent because of the things they say to me, so I freakin quit today.. What do I do now? I have had an interview set up for a life insurance company, but its not until the 3rd. I tried to hold out as long as I knew whether or not I would get the job there but I cant. Should I start looking for another job now or wait for the 3rd and see how that goes?

open to anyone. They are simply in a folder, PAS5 folder, which is not protected on loading the programme. A file which holds users passwords also appears open to anyone with basic IT knowledge. (These users passwords are only good when one is online, i mean, already in the programme and not when u access the system files thru Windows Explorer. Access controls are therefore not strict in this programme. As my company's Superuser, I need to hide all of these files from anyone who tries to access them thru Windows. My question is: How do i hide these files when accessing thru Windows? Our company is a bunch of accountants with no systems administrator, no IT professional.

Hello, I live in a nice neighborhood in Atlanta, GA with an HOA currently controlled by a property management company-- controlled by the developer as the still has several phases to complete. We've had several burglaries and found out they were being committed by a tenant of one of the homes being rented out. This burglar was caught and jailed for 2 weeks. There were no break-ins during that time. He has since been released and was seen attmepting another break-in but was not caught this time around. My question is, since we know this tenant is a criminal, what avenues does the community have to get him evicted? Can we hold the landlord liable? Thanks!

Ok. Im planning to buy a 2008 ninja 250R but not sure if I'll be able to afford insurance costs. Ok, I went online to get an insurance quote from Progressive, but ended up with a quote of almost $3,000 a year for a 3,499 dollar motorcycle. I heard that I should get something called "full coverage" but I couldn't find any option that said "full coverage" while filling out the evaluation to generate my quote. I live in Florida, never held any kind of driver's or motorcycle's license in America before. Held one for 5 years back in my country but it doesn't make a difference here. Will take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course before getting a motorcycle license and buying a motorcycle so that the insurance cost will be lower (hopefully). Any suggestions? Which insurance company is the cheapest?

Sorry, I don't have much information for it, I heard it while being put on hold with my cellphone company, and it brought back memories of when I was younger. I don't even really know the lyrics. I know it's sung by a man, but parts of the chorus are sung by a group of people that include men and women. It sounds like "we allll neeeed, tiiime to tryyyy" or pass you by or something. I know this is very vague, I've been googling everything I can think of but can't find nothing. It's an older song, 80s or early 90s, and the man who sings it has a strong voice, and a group of people contribute to the chorus. I wish I could hum the beat on here lol, it goes with the words I typed (might not be the actual words, but similar) daa-daa-daa, daaa-daaaa-daaaaa. Okay, I know this is a longshot and a horrible description, but any help would be appreciated. I think the artist is a group and not a solo artist, but I am not 100 percent sure. Thanks a lot. EDIT - By the way, the verse is sung by the man, and it's a little slower, but picks up for the chorus with a group of people singing along with him. Why do people sell stock and cause the stock market to fall, messing up the economy? To stock investors: please hold on to your stocks, unless it is invested in foreign companies. Don't join in these "sell" frenzies that are shown on tv and then the stock market falls, hurting the economy even more. Please invest in the US: buy only stocks in US companies such as Disney, Harley Davidson, GM, Ford, Nabisco, General Electric, etc. Do not buy petroleum stocks: let their stocks drop to 5 cents: send them a message. Buy American!

I bought some items from a store using my credit last year. I was told at the store that I will not be charged interest until a year later on my remaining balance. I paid back about 1/3 of what I owed within the year. I received my agreement a month later and did not take the time to read the fine prints (call me mr. stupid for this). Now the financing company is telling me interest was accruing all this time and when it came the time for my first payment, the balance was back to what I originally owed. Note that I checked my balance and my statement throughout the year and it was the remaining amount until my last statement. I am fighting this and I am holding off on paying until they honor what the store told me, what can I expect? I will also contact my lawyer about this.

In the company I work in, all Assessors get together and assess several pieces of anonymous evidence selected by the IV facilitating the session. A sometimes (very) lively debate then occurs about what standards have been met. The session is usually geared around one or two units from a particular NVQ. Do any other Assessors out there know of other ways to deliver the sessions that are a little more interesting, but that still keeps the full purpose of standardisation? We have done it this way for years and need a change! Thanks!

Hello, I'm an African America man. I recently relocated to work for what I thought was a great company. After being there only a month (probably not even that) my boss started throwing out racial jokes. I just brushed it off in the begining becasue I just moved, it took a lot out of me and I just figured some poeple are ignorant. So this continues and a coworker even said to me one day "Why do you let himtreat you that way?" I thought about it, but again, being a minority in the work place, trying to get by I still just held it in. So this went on for a few months. More recently, my boss thought it would be funny to put a noose around my neck. I was furious. Now I'm just humiliated and insulted. Nobody seems to completely understand, which is fine. But now I have a huge decision to make and I don't even know if I should put a price on it. What is this lawsuit worth? Is there anyone out there that has any idea? I mean NO amount of money is going to burry this image. Any suggestions?

This M----r F-----g C--k S----r we have for a president is trying to milk us out of our last pennies. The economy has gone to you know where, as a result of the high cost of transportation, the big oil companies(of which our "president" is a part of) are racking in billions, and we idiots are paying their prices and making them richer! We should be holding huge demonstrations nationwide, and if they turn out violent, and if people die, maybe then "The Big Wigs" will get the message that you can put a screw in a piece of wood so far! You screw it in too deep, the wood will snap back and knock you out silly! I'm not promoting violence, but we may need to sacrifice so we can be heard as working people and stop being taken advantage of, for crying out loud!! With these gas prices, the least this F-----g president can do is raise our minimum wage to $15/Hour so he can justify charging $4.00/Gallon of Gas!!!!

I may be kicked out of the girls clubhouse for this one but I do not get the point of paying insane amounts of money for something to hold your money. I've heard the argument that these expensive purses last "forever". I have a $10 purse from Walmart that I've had for 20 years and still looks great. I can admire the style for some of them but it would never be worth the price for me. And almost all of them slap their logos all over everything so you are paying $$$ to advertise for this company? I do understand the status thing with them but still think it's ridiculous. And why call it a "bag". It sounds even more ridiculous to pay $800 for a bag than a purse. Please explain. Jamie 10 - Trashy!? That is your opinion. Not sporting a logo that says I've spent a gazillion dollars on this bag in no way equates to taste or style. Have you seen some of these gaudy things? Personally I think it shows more class not to look like a walking billboard for some company. I look fine in public with my Walmart purse. In fact, years ago a friend of mine bought a Coach and it had an extra tag. We put it on my Walmart purse and plenty of your like-minded friends oohed and ahhed over how nice it was. You call a company using their toll free number, you get a message saying the next available agent will take your call and you hold for 15 minutes meanwhile you know there are other calls ahead of you but the companies flat out lie and say the next agent will take your call. How come ? do they think were stupid and don't know it's first some first answered.

I am A.A. and I am sick and tired of the shit I have to deal with(at my school) from some other A.A.s and in society. These nasty girls that make fun of me for not having a perm, for not wearing brand name clothing, for being quiet, for being me but they don't make fun of the emo kids or anybody else outside the race. It's like they like making fun of anyone in the race that does not qualify as acting "black" enough. WTF?! The guys that say my hair is nappy or your nose is too big or your skin is too dark when they look exactly like you and then they treat white, light skinned latinos girls like their God. The ones that decide to act a fool in school and not speak correct english or act loud and then tell white people/the teacher, I'm black, we don't play that/do that. Don't group me with you! The ones that use the n word and encourage others to do the same. And the ones in society that make us look stupid. And the ones in society that make us look stupid. Rev. Al Sharpton and his everything is racist thing that never accomplishes anything. There are better ways to accomplish things as A.A.s. Plus hes a hyprocrite, hes gotten paid to hold protests but that?s another story.The ones like Flava Flav, or even the people behind it who have college educated degrees and are like VP of some company that perpetuates the stereotype just for money. All that I know is that it's at least 10 years old and in one part of the movie, a guy is on the phone with his alarm company while he's being held at gunpoint. The alarm company operator is asking for his security question and he says, pyramid or diamond, and the operator gives him the okay. Then, later, police arrive and the guy who was being held says that he changed the password, so that's why the police came-because they figured he was in trouble when he gave the wrong password. lol. What movie is that? Wow, you're right! I just found the transcript. I have a great memory, too. The password was pyramid. Thanks. Heyyo, My name's Matt, I'm 19 yrs old, I just finished my second year of biochem in university and I just began my work term with a Power Supply/Holding company in New Brunswick. There's one gal I've seen around who's also starting her work term ( a uni student as well) and I'm quite attracted to her. Anyway, I was headed out of the office for lunch yesterday and I stepped on the elevator and there she was, all by herself. I asked her how things were going ect... and we ended up walking out of the building together before we went our seperate ways. She gave me her name and said it was nice meeting me (possibly a good thing). Corporations have their place in society, but government is NOT a 'company'. Anyone who has ever held a job knows that upper managment can be some of the worst managers, biggest fools and outright counter-productive at times. So why in heavens name do we want to turn our nation's government over to these blow hards? The degree to which we have done that already has only resulted in misery and economic disparity, war and recession. Who ever conviced us that the law of 'supply and demand' should have complete control over our society? Again, I emphasize that these certainly HAVE THEIR PLACE in a society, but they should NOT run the nation.

Im living paycheck to paycheck with nothing extra to barely even buy food for me and my son. thankfully he is in wic so it helps me a lil. Debt under my name only Car # 1- 17,923.54 (450.00 /m) (Intrest 194.43/m) Car #2- 9,058.99 (250.00 /m) (Intrest 112.98 /m) Motorcycle - 2,282.13 (109.47/m) ( Intrest 44.47/m) Bank Credit Card - 1,683.78 ( 80.25/m) (Intrest 31.32/m) Honda Retail Card- 1,740.55 (87.25/m) (intrest 33.25/m) Plus i have a few Small collections School- 15.00/m i owe about 200 Medical. 10.00/m owe like 80.00 Stoped paying Intrest bearing medical bill its about 5,000.00 I Have a Written off auto loan for 24,000.00 was making 40.00 payment on it so they will not make judgment. Currently in process of getting insurance lawyer. the car was stolen and had insurance but insurance doesnt want to pay just because my name wasnt on the policy and it wasnt in the state the policy was held at. (missrepresentation of the company) This does not include Water bill Gas bill Cable Bill Electric bill Gas money for car to work I forgot to mention Student loan 98.00/m i owe about 9,000 i only get paid after taxes are cut 769.40 every 2 weeks......... I feel so empty of feelings towards my husband, my heart feels like it has this void there. We dont enjoy eachothers company instead of talking to me when we have a problem he pretty much calls me stupid and yells at me blaming me for everything and it makes me mad so I yell back. I feel like he just doesnt love me because he always asks me if I think we will make it in our marriage. I am so lost and confused I dont know what to do. I want to just love him and hold on to him and cry my pains out but I feel like it doesnt matter. He has left me before for 2hrs in the hospital when i didnt know what was wrong with me and said he needed to go back to work he couldnt be with me, I was so crushed and it has ruined us ever since. He also had me arrested on lies and all charges were dropped because he was just pissed at me and wanted me out of the house and the cops found out. My husband and son both have Anthem insurance which they used to hold separately but Anthem have now combined them together with my husband as the policy holder. My husband now has health care through the VA and wants to cancel his insurance with Anthem - if he does that, will they also cancel my son's because my husband is the policy holder now? We have our own company so buy our own insurance. Anthem won't insure me because I had a slipped disc so I'm with Golden Rule and it's a bit crappy. Thanks. I want to keep my son with Anthem because it is good coverage and he has allergies and asthma. GR were the only ones to accept me. Anthem refused point blank due to the discs. I had the steroid shots in my spine and it was never a problem again but Anthem would not cover me unless I had several discs removed and the doctors say I don't need the disc removed - go figure!

There are many alternatives out there but most if not all viable options are owned by the oil companies to protect their interests, When are our governments going to say stuff them all and allow other alternatives despite patents held by the oil companies. Is it time we left oil in the ground and chose a better solution, specifically now that China and India are surging ahead, they are competing for the same oil as us and we really don't need it.

So who can you trust with the future of your nation. I'll tell you who. ME! Vote for me on your ballot. I'll upgrade our infrastructure with new highways and upgraded old ones, I'll start a project to harness the waters that flood states every year, build a storage area in the Mid west that will be able to hold this water and send it to states that are suffering a drought. I'll start using our technology to upgrade our energy usage. I'll build a new railway system using the magnetic levitation system through out the country. I'll demand that companies that are owned and operated by U.S. citizens will have to pay more taxes if they move their production plants to other nations to save money and reduce their employment here. I'll require that all financial institutions be owned by U.S. citizens, not foreign countries such as China, Saudi Arabia or whoever. It's time we start taking care of this country and stop worrying about expanding our global reach. We will be great by focusing on new ideas that will help us grow within. Illegal citizens will be rounded up and deported back to their homeland and we will charge that country the expense instead of using our money to do something that they should be taking care of themselves. I am looking at buying a car from a private party in which part of the ad reads, "I'm selling the car to clear up some debt. Bank of America currently holds the title. I hardly drive the car since i do have a company car." What does it mean that Bank of America holds the title and what does that mean for me as the buyer. For example, he is asking 10k which is what he owes and I am willing to pay that. If I pay that, I get the title, correct? The bank has nothing to do with this anymore, correct?

They claim that they held a exihibition 2 weeks ago which i didn't attend, and i've gotten the 3rd price which was $100 000. I am about to get a laptop through my company but I need to research something that the FAQ on Verizon's site can't answer and I'm not willing to wait an hour on hold to find out. So I need to be able to take my laptop anywhere (even the beach) and access the internet, so I've deduced that I need a mobile broadband card and not a wireless card to do this. I need to know, though, if the mobile broadband card basically secures my laptop its own connection to the internet and thus its own IP address that will not change if my location does. I am from new york state, the other driver is from new jersey. The accident occured in new Jersey. The new Jersey driver struck me on the drivers side door while I was pulling out of the gas station. there were 2 lanes and the cars in the first lane stopped 2 allow me 2 pull out. The car that hit me was a block away. I have driver side door damage. The other driver has front damage and dragged my veicle a few feet. Would I be held liable for that or would the other driver be held liable for the accident? If the other driver is held liable but their insurance company refuses to pay for damages can I then take the other driver to court for costs due to the accident? A police report was filed and the cop stated that he cant specify what possibly may have happened because he wasnt there and there were no witnesses as to what occured. What advice would u give regarding the situation at hand and the answers 2 my questions.

I am in a heated arguement with my husband. His daughter and her 4yr old daughter live with us. I have trouble with the way my husband and his daughter act with each other. Even with company over (people from our church) she will sit behind him on the couch and wrap her legs around him holding him. He has no problem with laying up next to her, wrapping his arm around hers, holding her hand, stroking her back and hair for long periods of time. He informs me that I am the one with the problem that I must have been abused.... gag~ Also the grandbaby? Well, she strips down to the panties, takes baths and sticks soap up herself. How do I get it through my husband's head that this is not normal? The daughter is 23yrs and her daughter is 4yrs. I did report the soap issue but nothing was investigated. As far as the leg wrapping and the back and hair stroking issue... it was not a short time... more like 20 mins plus. Let me go further about the soap thing. The mother was seeing a coke-head, not the baby-daddy when this happened. The 4yr old cried out at one point after the soap ordeal that mommy's boyfirend "*******" hurt her down there. Husband daughter has no trouble talking/bragging about sexual conquests with her dad and sending him sexually overtoned text msgs. And no... I am not over dramatizing.

Is this fair? (sorry! long story!) I was trying to get the phone company to transfer my land line to this other house that I was moving to.... I was on hold for a half hour! Then, I called back... I was on hold for 20 min. then, I talked to a representative for 20 min. I repeatedly told the phone representative how my phone battery was dying! I kept asking her to hurry. So, I did not know if my phone service would be successfully transfered or not. So, I wrote two letters to the phone company asking for service at the new location with no fees (terms that had been agreed on during the conversation). Apparently, the phone company thought that my phone service was activated. However, they did not attempt to contact me to tell me that my phone service was activated. They charged me fees for activation and sent me a bill. Something was wrong with the mail (?) but I did not get it. Now, I get a bill for $72 from March? I talked them down to $36. Is this fair? or should I pay $0 because There was an error on the outside of the house. I had no dial tone until today, when they fixed it! (The phone company did not charge a fee to fix the phone on the outside of the house.) We have cell phones. The land line phone company is being very annoying. I am not happy. I really wanted this land line for when the cell phones do not work, huh? seems to be the other way around, eh? Should I just cancel my land line "service"? (co called "service" as I did not really recieve any services until today. Why should I have to pay? Sure, the bill was lost. Does that mean it is my fault? I do want to be fair. It is sort of my fault, isn't it? or .. shouldn't the phone company have sent me a letter saying "welcome back to... your phone service"?) Is $36 OK? I sort of think it is OK? or am I being taken advantage of? I was hit by a car at an intersection. I had green light and I was driving straight on the road and the car that was coming from the opposite direction tried to make the left turn and hit my car in the driver?s side at the intersection. This intersection doesn?t have a left turn signal. As a result of this car hitting my car, my car spun over and hit another vehicle that was stopped and her car hit another one. So the total car that is involved in this accident is 4. My car and the car that hit me have to be totaled, but the other two cars only have minor body damages/ scratches as per the police report. At the time I only had third party insurance and even though my car is totaled my insurance wont pay me any thing and the other party?s insurance is delaying the whole procedure saying that they are not able to get a hold of one of the four vehicles ? which is one of the two cars that have minor body damages. Am I getting played by their insurance company or is there any legal actions that I can take, that will make them to speed up the process. It?s been about a month and they still haven?t come up with a settlement .Every time I talk to the adjuster, he is giving me the same reason that he is not able to get a hold of the third car driver and it?s still under investigation. Any body has any idea what I should do next.

Many software programs being released now, even security software, are not being programmed to be supported in Windows 98 an longer. It's my belief that there are many hold-outs, myself included, still using the Windows 98 platform, and are not enamored of Windows XP or Vista? Maybe more than the software companies realize. I have XP Pro on my computer at work and I don't care for it. I hear Vista is even more troublesome. Any comments?

I get feelings about things that are going to happen, Its usually after seeing a number or combination of numbers that stand out to me for no real reason but when these things happen, I get good luck with the numbers i seen/noticed. An example of this was when i kept noticing the number ten on everything, And my mother went to by 5 raffle tickets and was given ten. Before she could hand them over to the shopkeep, I pulled her aside and said "Just hold on to them, Your holding a winning ticket.". I just had this strange feeling she was, And sure enough, Not only did she get a winning ticket, She got first prize. It has also happened with things like seeing the clock change from 3.32 to 3.33 the moment i look at it, And then telling my dad about it and that we would have good uck with threes. His boss called him 2 days later and said he had a 3 year contract for dad, Building 33 houses for the company. Seriously, What would you call this "Gift"? I am in NY. Said landlord lives out of state and has no managing company here. Landlord states he will not vouch for any of these strangers that will be entering the apt. but that I personally have to show them around. I am breaking the lease a month early, if that matters, so the landlord holds that over me. I tried to say no and ask if he could find someone to act as an agent, but that was met with resistance. There has been a debate in my place of work recently surrounding rates of pay. Some people believe it is illegal for permanent employees to receive a lower rate of pay than temporary employees who are doing the same/comparable work as they are. Some disagree arguing that the agency supplying the temporary staff set the rates of pay and that the company is not responsible for this and, therefore, cannot be held liable for differences in pay. Can anyone with good knowledge of the legalities behind all of this shed a bit more light on this subject?

Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... .. I believe there are electric cars that will get maybe 100/200 miles tops, not sure... I know for a fact though, would be easy and probably already in existance for lithium type huge batteries, etc. And w/ solar panels, etc. Could easily make cars that get 500-1000 miles per charge and run at 65/70mph using ZERO fuel. I am going through hell with my son. He is twelve, and no matter what I do, no matter what my wife or my oldest daughter do, he won?t do his homework. We ground him, we take away all his gadgets, we prevent him from going to birthday parties and other social events that he loves. Other than corporal punishment (which is a place I won?t go), we have tried everything. It doesn?t matter? he doesn?t care. We can't force him to do something he thinks is wrong. And my personal hell is... he is right. My son can listen to the radio and pick up his saxophone and play whatever he is hearing. Or, if his sax isn?t handy, he picks up whatever other musical instrument is around and plays that. But he doesn?t do his homework. I bought him a book about drawing and he gets up at night and reads it and sneaks around the house sketching things. The portraits he does are incredible. The comics he produces are funny, insightful and engaging. Everyone asks him to draw for them. But he doesn?t do his homework. My son is rarely if ever unhappy, and people are naturally drawn to him. He has a great delivery on jokes and has a photographic memory for any piece of pop culture he has seen. We riff on Simpson?s lines all the time, cracking each other up in the process. Then he?ll tell me movies he saw three years ago, shot by shot, line by line. But he doesn?t do his homework. My son is intellectually curious. He loves to learn new things and is always asking me ?Why does something work this way?? or ?What about that?? But he doesn?t do his homework. My son loves video games. I work at a video game company so I know how long it is supposed to take to finish all the missions in your average next gen video game. My son takes half that time. He holds competitions with his friends where, after he beats them, he shows them all the tricks that he has figured out about how to beat the game. But dammit, he doesn?t do his homework. The other day I insisted that my son finish a piece of homework. I sat down next to him and taught myself math that I never learned in all my years of high school and college (remember, he is twelve). I stayed up until midnight with him, browbeating him the entire time, my anger unchecked. Finally, we completed the problem, which had to do with plotting the parabola of a quadratic equation and reducing the result set to a graph of the system of inequalities. The project was about finding the cross section of a river based on a given quadratic equation. The next morning my son woke early and went down and made his project interesting to him. He put in cartoon characters exploring the depth of the river, and drew a shark (which he labeled with his teacher?s name) about to eat a happy little duck (which he labeled ?My Grades?). He drew a fisherman packing gear and assorted other fish and life. These were not just doodles ? he actually helped clarify some of the information that he had been struggling with. By drawing the characters he was helping himself understand what the lesson was trying to teach. My entire family was completely enthralled by what he had done. It was not only artistically creative and engaging, it actually helped clear up the very nature of the project. Justly proud, we anxiously looked forward to hearing how his teacher responded. My son returned home from school downcast, shuffling his feet. I asked him what was wrong. ?My teacher didn?t like the project, because I put it on the wrong size paper.? I don't have much hair, but I am ready to tear what little I have out at the roots. My son doesn?t do his homework because his homework is stupid. I have spoken to educators and principles and academicians and grandparents and probably a hundred other people , and nobody has given me a decent answer to this question: "Why are you so convinced that my son is going to be an academic or an investment banker?" Because as far as I can tell, those are the only two things that schools prepare kids to be. I have been sitting by my son's side for 7 years, doing his lessons. I believe I can state with the unequivocal clarity of someone that his given valuable time to a task that is largely worthless but required... the homework is just plain dumb. It is boring and condescending and even my son, at the age of twelve, can figure out that the rules are arbitrary, that they are enforced in a haphazard fashion, and that the stuff that he loves (art and music and video games) will be a great future for him and the stuff he hates (math and science) is something he will never compete in, never have a chance at. But school doesn?t care, because school does not have the objective of helping my son produce the maximum amount of value in the future that he will probably encounter. School cares about ensuring that he knows how to take tests, follow directions and can do math that he will never have to care about for the rest of his life. School cares that he can either prove that he is worthy of being in the top 5% that will go on to be homogenized and brainwashed in a top-notch school so that they are almost completely without originality of thought or perspective or that he gets the hell out of the way for those kids that meet that description. School cares that he can be measured and managed, so that he will be a good little cog in a habitual big wheel. As a parent I am caught between two worlds. I am 100% certain that school is doing great damage to his future prospects, but I also know that the game is rigged to be in favor of kids who get the right grades. Because recruiters can?t seem to get off the ?experience and education? kick that does so much damage to our society and our children, I know that my children?s future job prospects are being controlled by people who have never once taken a critical look at what really goes into producing value for a business or market. They just know that their client (the hiring manager) told them they wanted somebody from Stanford with a certain GPA. And if they can get that butt in that seat they can then go deal with the next client. I want to focus on what will make my kids successful, on what will allow them to provide the most possible value to their clients, their society and themselves. But I have to focus on what will get them work, even if that will hurt them, society, the companies that hire them and everyone around them. This is the very definition of broken system, the very epitome of how we are driving ourselves off a cliff all in the name of safe driving.
