  1. Resolved Question: Management fees on private investment pools?
  2. 27 May 2008 at 1:41pm
What typically are management fees (both management and incentive fees) for pooled investment vehicles, such as private equity pools and limited partnerships? I read in Wikipedia the "2 and 20" rule, with 2% management fee on total assets and 20% of total return, for both the Hedge Fund and the Venture Capital definition. However, I was not certain that was universal, or just what Wikipedia contributors came in with. Thank you.

Now since the suspects have confessed, the action should be swift. Jerome Mathew should be hanged as soon as possible for this gruesome murder. No mercy should be shown and all human rights organisations should stay away. Cutting a body to 300 pcs, shows the mental status of the individual. It is surprising that a few of these orthodox malyalayi christians that i have met, (I would repeat a few and not all) I found them to be very cunning, out to make money at any cost, and shameless. So please beware of protestant, and orthodox malayali christians. Don't avoid them, but be careful especially if you are going into a business venture with them. this is just a warning after several personal experiences I had with them not only in Delhi, but also in Dubai.

  15. Resolved Question: Hiring a programmer?
  16. 19 May 2008 at 6:52pm
I will soon be hiring a developer to make me my site, and I was wondering about the shopping cart that I will have. It will be a customized one, in terms of built to order shopping cart, much like dell and hp. Just a ballpark estimate from all you developers how much should this cost, in terms of building it in USA and building in India. I have spoked to quite a few in India and one very helpful and knowledgable one, in India. My local firm told me around 12k but I need venture capital for that which I really dont want to get. Also the person from India said 2500 which is a decent amount, it far surpasses my budget but I think its workable. Also add a month of PPC with my budget being around 1k for the first month, according to him I should get 3l-5k hits per day, which is exactly where I want to be. Does this seem reasonale, I will also be having a blog to update all my customers and clients about what will be going on. Thanks Ross the problem with that is that these tools dont let me cusomize the site to my specifications, and I dont want a lousy site, I have spent hours building up my site, then nothing. Like i spend months on end maybe up to 40 hours easy to make a 5 page site like I could spend those 40 hours on impriving my business than worrying over a site.

I'm trying to decide whether to attend Harvard for a degree in Computer Science (which I am somewhat interested in) or Stanford for Management Science which I am very interested in. I am very drawn to the prestige of Harvard (which I know is superficial) will carry me heavily in the long run vs. taking interesting classes in management at Stanford. I am ultimately trying to get into Venture Capital, Startups or Strategy Consulting. Please let me know your thoughts!

  33. Resolved Question: Was working on a review for a guy from another company.?
  34. 2 May 2008 at 12:10am
About a week ago, I went to a meeting that was put on by this venture capital firm. Met a few people while at the meeting and tossed out a few business cards. I then received an e-mail from the head of the VC asking me for specifics about what I did. So, I gave him the standard line and he then said that he was wondering if I would have the time to review a companies research that he was looking at. I checked to see if there was any COI from my company and then agreed. So, while researching this company, I found out that the company was actually sold to a larger company back in 2005. So, I am thinking that this is some sort of a test (potentially for some type of employment). Will probably send back my opinion on Monday. This is quite unusual for me; is my impression correct? Am trying to do the best job I can on this regardless-no sense looking bad in front of a president of a company.

I am Adam, 27, a Singapore citizen. Does anyone anybody with a good soul here offer a personal loan/sponsorship to an individual person? I wanted to set up a small F&B franchise store in Singapore and I needed a capital. I am willing to set aside some of the money loan to me to pay up the monthly repayment including the interest. With all due respect, It is so tough and agony wanting to prove people in Singapore even the bank on how truthfully and sincere you are about changing your life. I have made some wrong decisions in life on NOT SAVING UP for the future and I want to prove the people I can achieve in my life. I will work extra hard for this business venture. I have been a victim of several online scams and lost to almost SGD2000.!! I might not have any PhD, I dont own any credit cards nor a car but personally, I think people should be given a second chance to prove their sincerity. Im desperately wanting to get back on track to the right path of life.

  46. 19 Apr 2008 at 10:18pm
Due to a bacterial infection, caused by injury & poor medical care, I was bedridden & unable to earn much income for two years. I came within 8 days of amputation, then a young enterprising doctor astonished his superiors AND me with a solution which has destroyed the bacteria & allowed me to heal almost completely. I've barely survived the last three years by working out of my home. The property is about to be foreclosed & auctioned. My handicapped son & I have managed, but I'm unable to rebuild my previously successful business without a loan of some sort. The endeavor isn't big enough to rate a venture capitalist's interest, but will earn me a 6-digit income, IF I make improvements to a well located building I recently rented & advertise. I'm looking for ideas that would connect me with investors who are looking to make a 10%-plus annual return on their capital, over a relatively short time. Small loan or large, this interest is preferable to that charged by predator lenders.

  49. Resolved Question: What business am I in?
  50. 16 Apr 2008 at 9:02pm
Okay I am about to apply to mba programs and I'm trying to get a grasp on how I'm going to present my work experience. Basically my situation is this: My boss owns two large commericial real estate properties that he rents space out in. My boss also owns two wine labels. He also owns a custom crush wine facility (crush the grapes that other vineyards can't crush for themselves). Occasionally my boss will make small venture capital investments. He also manages a musician. I am second in command at all these businesses. I am his only employee. He refers to me as his "assistant" yet what I do is far beyond secretarial. I guess in essence, I am an assistant manager. Now my question isn't so much about what to title myself, as it is how do I succintly describe what my business does? I mean it's not venture capital...so what business am I in? Is there a straight forward 2-4 word term for a firm that owns and manages several businesses in different industries?

We have been 100% Venture Capital owned since our inception 3.5 years ago. We are in talks with large pharma companies who could benefit from having our product in their portfolio. We recently cut our work force by a third and our CEO says he is only interested in talking to companies with lots of cash. The hand writing on the wall says something is going to happen soon, my gut says by the end of Q2 or Q3. I will not be 100% vested until Oct of this year. What typically happens to ISO's if we are acquired, will we be given cash or our options swapped for stock of the acquiring company? Also being a small fish eaten by a big one are our jobs likely to be phased out?

It was a venture in the province which my friend wanted to enter into when he learned of the potential profit & he asked my uncle to be the operations person in the site. my friend put up 100% of the capital required. unfortunately my uncle didnt keep good records of expenses and now that the venture didnt work out, my friend is accusing my uncle of embezzling funds. I know my uncle and I was also with him in the site. The only personal use of the money was for a small living allowance which he partly sent back to his wife. To prove good faith, my uncle volunteered to return all my friend's money. He is still in the province trying to find ways to continue the venture and pay back my friend. In the meantime, my friend views me as a crook, I keep getting insults & verbal abuse. I left my job to focus on the venture earlier but now I want to get another job to be able to earn some money again & contribute to the repayment. Sadly my friend doesnt want me to, saying i work 4 him now. Help!

Like anyway how does this work and such and am I right but...?? like at the same time a lot of them started with just one too so IDK haha.

  93. Resolved Question: does this make sense? feel free to add things!?

Stereotypes, because everyone believes that one race can be lazy, and another is easy to persuade. In today?s society people of minority want to convince those critics that were not just something that is printed on our foreheads everywhere we go. That we are also something else too, something that is striving to have our own individualism without people trying to put us down. Moreover, persuading someone to do something way beyond their reach is like someone telling you that you cheated your way to the top unfortunately, some people can only feel good about themselves if they feel superior to others. So they put themselves and those like themselves upon a pedestal and then look down upon others who appear superficially different especially minorities). Minority women frequently report that access to capital is one of the biggest hurdles to growth. Female entrepreneurs can be dogged by the stereotype that they have the financial know-how, which can make lenders, investors and venture capitalists in particular hesitant to work with them. Despite apparent obstacles, minority women are increasingly embracing entrepreneurship-a fact largely attributed to and disparities in pay equal treatment in the corporate world.

Which out of the four is a better idea to start up with when starting with little or no capital? Bottled water factory? Soda pop? My own energy drink brand or my own line of beer or liquor? Any suggestions on how to get credit. What things should I know before I venture out on this type of business?

  97. Resolved Question: New business owernership question?
  98. 7 Mar 2008 at 8:55pm
Let?s say that I have a business idea, but no capital at all. And, the business idea requires millions of dollars. So, when I approach an investor(s) or a company to invest in my idea, what percentage of ownership of the new business venture can I expect to get, considering that I have no capital at all? Thank You very much :) I guess another way to put my question is: What's the likely scenario if the investors like my idea and decide to fund it 100%? Will they likely to let me keep 51% or more of ownership, even when I have no capital invested in the new business? Or, how much ownership will they typically demand for themselves? Thank You :)< >
